Organizations who hire archivists are not limited to the federal, state, and local governments, nor regional historical societies. If you were able to visit the site exploring the diversity of the archival profession, you will have seen that many institutions require the services of archivists. Colleges and Universities, like my own University of Maryland- College Park [wp], have archivists/librarians. These can be the university's own archives, a special collection held at the school, or a mixture of the two. Museums may need archivists to preserve and keep items that are part of the institution's collection and records and documents created by the institution. Religious organizations, corporations, hospitals, non-profit groups may hire archivists or records managers to preserve and organize the many documents that are created out of the normal business of functioning.
